ABOUT US

In 1976 a group of local musicians came together to form a brass band in Torbay. Growing quickly in number the group soon had both a competition band and a thriving youth band. When the decision was made to invite adult musicians into the youth band the bands name changed initially to The Torbay Brass ‘B’ Band and later Torbay Concert Brass.

In 2014, Torbay Brass Band took the sudden and unexpected decision to sever all connections with Torbay Concert Brass leaving the band without instruments, music and rehearsal facilities. Whilst in the short term this was a challenging time for the band it proved to be a catalyst for sustained growth and improvement.

‘Bay Brass’, under the guidance and direction of talented Musical Directors and with a group of passionate and hard-working committee members has continued to develop and progress.

Our current Musical Director, Alan Wilmott, was appointed in September 2018. Alan brings a wealth of conducting experience to the band – including a National Brass Band Championships final appearance - and with several new players the band are very much looking forward to a post COVID world of exciting opportunities.

Rehearsing at 19:30 on Wednesday evenings in St Andrew’s Church, Shiphay the band welcome enquiries from new players.

As part of the band's safeguarding responsibilities we have a Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy which can be found by clicking the icon below.
