December 2023
Happy New Year to all our friends! It's been another amazing year for the band and we've taken part in some great events! Check out the video below for a recap of what we've been up to:
October 2023
On Saturday 14th October, we were delighted to join, once again, with our friends at Lympstone Band, for a joint concert at Southernhay Church, Exeter. We took the first half, with Lympstone taking the second and both bands then joining for two massed items for a rousing finale.
Our programme for the evening was as follows:
Prismatic Light (Alan Fernie)
London River (Reginald Heath)
Demelza (Hugh Nash) - Tenor Horn Soloist, Stephanie Wilmott
Mr Blue Sky (Arr. Steve Thomas)
The Greatest Showman (Trs. Christopher Bond)
The Golden Lady (Goff Richards)
You can see recordings of our pieces in the below video.
September 2023
The band were delighted to take part in the Torbay Pride Festival on Saturday 2nd September. Opening the day, we performed outside the Torquay Pavilion as crowds assembled ahead of the Pride march along Torquay Seafront. Our summer programme pieces went down a treat and added to the party atmosphere of the day.
August 2023
Our Autumn Programme is starting to take shape, and we are pleased to confirm two concerts. Firstly, we will be taking part in the Torbay Pride Festival on Saturday 2nd September on Torquay seafront before joining with the SW Comms Band for a joint concert on Saturday 14th October in Exeter.
The band are absolutely thrilled to announce that we will then be taking part in The South West Brass Band Association's 75th Annual Championships on 4th November at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay. This will be the band's first ever contest entry and we are very much looking forward to competing with bands from around the region.
July 2023
We had an absolutely fantastic time taking part in Bandamonium 2 on Saturday 29th July. Traveling by coach, and taking part with 10 other bands, we performed a mini-concert at each location. Our theme for the day was 'Themes from Film and Musical Theatre' and included 'And All That Jazz', 'Bedknobs & Broomsticks', 'Memory (from 'Cats')', 'Singin' in the Rain', 'Grease!'
and 'Mama Mia'. Complete with props, costumes, popcorn and candy floss and our 'deputy Musical Director' Arthur (pictured below) who conducted Mama Mia at each venue, we had a great time interacting with the audiences at each location.
Our thanks go to the event organisers, coach drivers and pub landlords for putting on such a wonderful day and we're looking forward to taking part in next year's event.
July 2023
The Band are delighted to be taking part in the Bandamonium 2 event on 29th July. We'll be heading up to West Devon and spending the day travelling by coach performing concerts in the local area. Starting in South Zeal, we'll move to Northlew, Sheepwash, Hatherleigh and Sampford Courtenay before then heading back to Hatherleigh for a massed bands event.
May 2023
We had an absolutely fantastic night at our Spring Concert with the Champagne Cornwall Chorus enjoying a wonderful night of music making with an enthusiastic and appreciative audience. Before the second half we presented our annual awards; the 'Just Because Award', nominated by the band chairman, and the 'Bandperson of the Year Award', voted for by band members. This year, both awards went to our Eb Tuba player Sophie and were presented to her by our president Doug Rix, Minister at St Andrew's Church.
April 2023
We're looking forward to our first concert of 2023 where we are pleased to be joining with the Champagne Cornwall Chorus
at St Andrews Church Shiphay. Come along and join us for what will be an excellent night of music making
