Merry Christmas to all!

And that's a wrap. December has flown by once again and we've played the last of our Christmas gigs. From schools to community centres, care homes to car parks we've been everywhere and in all weathers. We've had a brilliant time playing and look forward to seeing everyone again in 2025.

Remembrance Sunday

On Sunday 10th November, the band were honoured to take part in the annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations at Torquay Cenotaph.

Contest Success

We had an absolutely fantastic day at the SWBBA's annual championships on Saturday 2nd November. Playing off a number one draw, our performance of Goff Richards' 'Saddleworth Festival Overture' saw us take home the awards for best tuba section, highest placed ungraded band and win the fourth section.

10th Anniversary Concert

The band had a fantastic day celebrating our 10th Anniversary on Saturday 19th October. We began the day with a low brass workshop, run by our special guest Nick Hudson before our Gala Concert took place in the evening. With no less than four premiere performances, including our special commission 'Decenary Fanfare' by local musician Ben Elliott, our programme went as follows:

10th Anniversary Concert

With less than a fortnight to go until our gala concert we have been working hard with our guest soloist Nick Hudson. Together we have been putting together the finishing touches to the four solos that Nick will be performing, and working on the final details ahead of the concert on Saturday 19th October,

10th Anniversary Concert

There is less than a month to go until our 10th Anniversary Gala Concert with the world famous trombonist Nick Hudson. We’re delighted that Nick will be running a workshop in the afternoon for Trombone and other low brass players. Tickets can be booked on Eventbrite, or by contacting us on Facebook or Email. Tickets are £7 for the concert or £12 for the workshop and concert combined. Entry is free for anyone 16 and under when accompanied by an adult.  For more information visit our website or get in touch.

 Bay Brass turns 10! 

2024 is an important year for Bay Brass, marking the 10th anniversary of the band's formation. 

To celebrate this, we are delighted to announce a 10 Year Anniversary Concert on Saturday 19th October, where we will be joined by world renowned trombone virtuoso Nick Hudson. 

As well as joining us for our concert, we are thrilled to announce that Nick will also be leading a lower brass workshop on the afternoon of Saturday 19th October.

Bay Brass-tonbury takes to the stage! 

We had a fantastic time taking part in this year's Bandamonium III Event in West Devon! With our performance themed to music festivals, our colourful and loud performances were given at six venues. This unique event saw us travelling around the venues by coach, giving performances at each and rubbing shoulders from as far afield as Cornwall, Hampshire and Wales. 

July 2024

Saturday 13th July saw the band take part in two events on the same day. In the morning the band were thrilled to perform at the Hookhills Cherry Pie Fayre in Paignton. A quintessentially British Summer event, the band performed our summer programme on the stage before marching in the enormous cherry pie. We then travelled across to Torquay where we were played at our St Andrew's Church, our rehearsal venue, at the farewell to the minister, and our outgoing Band President, Doug Rix. 

July 2024

After having a brilliant time at last year's event, we're delighted to be taking part in Bandamonium again later this month. Once again, we'll be heading to West Devon to join in with the rapidly growing brass band festival which this year, the 3rd event, will see 18 bands taking part and a new venue, Okehampton, in addition to Hatherleigh, Sheepwash, Northlew, South Zeal and Sampford Courtenay. Members of Bay Brass will then be returning to Hatherleigh to join our fellow participants in the Massed Bands event.

We had a great time playing in Brixham this weekend as part of the wider events recognising the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings. In glorious sunshine, we performed to a large and enthusiastic crowd.

We were thrilled with the success of our first concert of 2024 at which we performed in front of a sellout audience, The band's programme was well received, and out guest soloist Nicola stole the show!

March 2024

We are delighted to announce our first concert of 2024! Our Spring concert will be taking place on Wednesday 1st May at St Andrew's Church in Shiphay. With an exciting programme, including music from film and theatre, 

We are also delighted to confirm that we will be joined for the evening by our special guest vocal soloist Nicola Collings. Soprano Nicola was a member of the prestigious International Staff Songsters of The Salvation Army for a number of years with who she sang across the UK and overseas. It promises to be a spectacular evening and we look forward to seeing you there! 

March 2024

The Band's AGM took place on Wednesday 20th March. After reflecting on a brilliant 2023, and electing the committee members for the new year, the annual awards were presented. 

The awards are for the MD’s Player of The Year, the ‘Just Because’ Award (nominated by the Chair) and new award for this year the ‘Players Player’ award. 

This new award was voted for by band members and is given in memory of our former player Trevor Badcott. Trevor was a founder member of the band and an instrumental part of all the band did before he sadly passed away in 2020. 

The awards were presented by our President Doug Rix, and the winners were as follows:

Trevor Badcott Award: Sue Jarvis (Cornet)
